Trump Calls Hormuz ‘Trump Strait’ After Rejecting Iran Deal, Hints 'Possible' Pre-Midterm Strikes

I don't want to say that. I mean, it's possible, but I just don't want to say that,&rdquo; he said.</p> <p class="isSelectedEnd">Trump reiterated that preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon remained the central US objective. &ldquo;And the key is, Iran will not have a nuclear weapon,&rdquo; he said, describing nuclear deterrence as &ldquo;key to the whole thing.&rdquo;</p> <p class="isSelectedEnd">Trump also claimed that the US was making progress through both military pressure and economic sanctions.</p> <p>&ldquo;I think both. I think we'll win it both ways. We stand firm in the face of any new aggression, even if it comes to a doomsday war. We don&rsquo;t care about U.S. midterm elections. We care about our national interests. At the same time, we stand ready for diplomacy. It is up to President Trump to choose,&rdquo; Araghchi told NBC News' <em>Meet the Press</em>.</p> <p class="isSelectedEnd">Araghchi said Trump's public rejection of Tehran's proposal had not been formally communicated to Iran through the designated mediators.</p> <p class="isSelectedEnd">He reiterated that Iran was willing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as part of a negotiated settlement to end the hostilities.</p> <p class="isSelectedEnd">&ldquo;We want our monies, our assets, which are illegally frozen, to be released.
