What Will Artemis Astronauts Wear On The Moon? NASA, Axiom Space To Reveal Spacesuit Prototype Soon

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">NASA and Houston-based aerospace firm Axiom Space will soon reveal what Artemis astronauts will wear on the Moon. NASA aims to send astronauts to the Moon as part of the Artemis III mission, the third leg of the Artemis Program. Artemis III aims to land humans on the surface of the Moon for the first time in over 50 years.&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">NASA and Axiom Space will reveal a spacesuit prototype on March 15, at 10:30 am EDT (9:00 pm IST), the US space agency said on its website. They will reveal the spacesuit prototype during a televised event hosted by Axiom Space from Space Center Houston in Texas.&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">People can watch the event live on NASA Television, the NASA app, and also on NASA's website.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In September 2022, NASA selected Axiom Space to deliver moonwalking spacesuits for Artemis III.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">NASA's massive Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion Space Capsule will carry astronauts into lunar orbit. From there, SpaceX's Human Lander System (HLS) will ferry the astronauts to the Moon's icy south pole. In Artemis III, the Orion capsule will connect to SpaceX's HLS.&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">NASA's award to Axiom Space is the first one under a competitive spacesuits contract. Axiom Space will develop a next generation Artemis spacesuit and supporting systems. The space firm will demonstrate the use of the moonwalking system on the surface of the Moon during Artemis III. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Axiom Space's responsibilities include the design, development, qualification, certification, and production of the spacesuits and support equipment.
